A Community Development Block Grant is a flexible, formula-based funding program provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to keep communities sound, attractive, and economically viable. You carry out needed home repairs while Oakland County qualifies homeowners, prepares work specifications and contracts, and ensures regular payments.
The Home Improvement Program services 50 communities in the county, including Brandon and Groveland townships. Typical contracts are $18,000, although in some cases, a deferred loan of $20,000 may be given. Eligibility for the program is determined by income. For a family of one, income can not be higher than $39,100.

Application for the Home Improvement ProgramQualified homeowners may receive interest-free loans of up to $18,000 to make needed home repairs, including barrier free access and energy saving upgrades. A family of four can not have an income greater than $55,850. The scale continues to slide up, and a family of eight must have an income of less than $73,850. Oakland County provides federal CDBG funding to communities for revitalization projects.
